When you see an emergency vehicle or tow truck stopped with lights flashing, you must slow down to a safe speed so you can pass with care. The maximum you should be at as you pass is 60 km/h, unless the posted speed limit in that area is lower than 60 km/h. In other words, you slow to 60 km/h or to the limit if the limit is, say, 50 or 40 km/h. This reduced speed gives you more time to react and protects workers who may be near the roadway. As you approach, scan for workers and hazards, and pass with caution, giving ample space to return to your lane safely.
